IVAN VIHOR
IVAN VIHOR attracted worldwide attention in
2017 when, at the age of 20, he won the most
prestigious Italian competition "Premio delle
Arti", and became the only non-Italian pianist
ever to achieve that, and in October of that same
year he was proclaimed the best young musician
of Croatia, winning the Papandopulo piano
competition and in the same week "Ferdo
Livadić" competition in Samobor where he won
both prizes.
Those successes were followed by invitations to
perform at a number of prestigious music
festivals such as Osor Musical Evenings, Samobor
Festival, St.Marcus Festival, Spoleto Festival, and
recording contract with Croatian Radio
Television.
He held his first public performance in Croatian
Society of Composers in Zagreb at the age of 7,
and at the age of 10 he made his debut with
orchestra, performing Bach Piano Concerto with
Orchestra Sinfonica di Chioggia under the baton
of conductor Pietro Perini. Since then, Ivan Vihor
has performed in many countries including
Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Italy, France,Germany,
Liechtenstein, the Netherlands, the USA, for
some of the most important music festivals: Osor
festival, Festival di Spoleto, Onde musicali Iseo,
Festival pianistico Brescia e Bergamo, Samobor
festival, Concerts du Cloitre Nice, Shandelee
Music Festival, Monferrato Classic Festival.
Ivan Vihor won many prizes in national and
international piano competitions which include:
Festival Musica in Laguna, "Zlatko Grgosevic"
Zagreb, "EPTA" Piano competition Osijek, "San
Dona di Piave" piano competition, "Bruno
Bettinelli" , Rotary competition for the best
instrumentalist, "Lino Barbisotti", Massarosa
Piano competition, "Lazar Berman" piano
competition, "Svetislav Stančić" Piano
competition Zagreb to name a few.
In 2019 he obtained a prestigious prize "Young
talent of the year" given by UBI Banca and
"Festival pianistico Brescia e Bergamo" and in
2020 won the "Ivo Drazinic Award" by the
Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra and LAUS
Academy, given to the most promising European
young musician member.
He was one of the finalists of the 12th Franz Liszt
international piano competition in Utrecht,
which was cancelled due to the COVID-19
pandemic. In 2021, he was invited and
participated in the Monte Carlo Piano Masters as
one of the best 11 pianists in the world.
Ivan Vihor started his formal education at the
age of 5 in the "Ivan Matetic Ronjgov" Music
School,where he completed his maturation
exam prof.Ana Drazul. This was followed by
completing his Bachelor of Music degree with
Highest Honors, as well as his Master Degree at
the Conservatory of Bergamo in the class of
prof.Marco Giovanetti. He is currently studying a
high master course at the piano Academy
"Incontri col Maestro" in Imola with Roberto
Giordano and Enrico Pace.
He has also collaborated with world-renowned
conductors such as P.Perini, B.Sipus, A.Ceccato,
M.Tarbuk, U.Lajovic.
He recorded a CD for the music label MC
Harmony ("Schumann,Beethoven and
Liszt",2015.) and also for the music label Vox
Primus ("Contradanza", 2020; „Liszt
Transcriptions”, 2021).
Ivan Vihor is also dedicated to teaching, and is
currently professor of piano and faculty member
at the Conservatory G.Donizetti in Bergamo and
at the Conservatory of Rimini.
He is also an accomplished chess player:
Croatian junior champion(2010.) and vice
champion( 2012., 2015., 2016.) and holds a title of
FIDE master.
